Re: [APML] Nikon D70
Hi,
altough I still work with film, I agree with Jerry and what he wrote 'bout
the 10D, but after all I've seen
in the last months, I think the Rebel D (EOS 300D here in Europe) has got
equal qualities.
A few days ago, I had the chance to look at some testshots (only darks)
which were made in a heated room, so the temperature was about 22 Degrees or
more.
The fact, that we had a EOS 300D in the same room was helpful, too.
We made darks with an exposure time of five minutes, with various
sensivities. As I could see, the noise on the D70 Images was comparable to
the noise on the 300D images.
Furthermore we used the remote control of a tv-set to test the IR sensivitiy
of the two cameras, and after we put a smallband IR filter between the two
cameras and the remote control, we were able to see that the D70 has a
better performance in the infrared light. Because of this I could imagine,
that the Nikon even has a slight advantage in photographing h-alpha objects.
But after all this testing I'm still not able to say, if the Nikon will be
substantially better than the Canon.
Furthermore, there's one thing at the D70, which could make it "unuseable"
for AP:
All of our five minute Testshots showed us a red coloured upper-left corner
on the image! When we increased the sensitivity of the camera, the "red
corner" became brighter an bigger. Because of this "hot corner" (it must be
caused by some devices which are to close to the CCD), nearly a full quarter
(upper left) of the Image must be cropped out.
Of course, the D70 is still an astonishing good camera - altough it's a
digital one. ;-)

André
