Having been sent a RAW dark frame image taken by a D70, it does appear 
virtually free of hot pixels.  However, there is significant amplifier 
glow in two places in the upper left corner.  As yet, I haven't seen the 
D70's chromatic response in light frames yet, and you might want to wait 
to see its 656nm sensitivity.

I too am heavily invested in Nikon.  I own a 10D.
