I won't pretend to be an expert on this subject (or most others
either), but I know the Meade guiders have a thermal shutdown routine.
The SBIG cameras have an automatic routine when you disconnect from the
operating software (CCDOps, CCDSoft, etc...). The Meades take about a
minute, SBIGs 15-30 seconds. To the best of my knowledge, the
explanation is that the chips need to return to ambient temperature
before voltage removal. If you've used it for ten years, then I think
we can assume that a thermal shutdown, for whatever reason, is
irrelevant. But I do want to know why. That's why I've already e-mailed
SBIG asking for an explanation.
