Because you're probably using a MS product <g>.  Although I am too for 
this list I do use other products on other machines/lists.  With most
non-MS products that I use most of the message comes across as a huge
amount of garbage.

Something else to consider is that even with Outlook when you use HTML
the fonts, colours, etc are forced to match what looks good on _your_
screen, resolution, system fonts, etc.  Unless someone is using a similar
setup as you chances are your message either LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE SHOUTING
or is made up of teeny tiny characters.

The final consideration is that it is generally considered rude, or at 
least unthinking.

Personally even though I don't like it I don't get worked up over the 
issue.  For the most part I just don't read messages with extensive
HTML.
