[APML] Newsletter
After giving it some thought, I don't think this
is off topic. I wanted to inform APML about the
latest newsletter of the Kitchener-Waterloo Centre
of the RASC (Royal Astronomical Society of Canada).
I'm the new editor of this publication, but I'm not
here to toot my own horn. The Spring issue contains
a good deal of astrophotography-related content that
might be of interest to APML members. Here's a
direct link. (Browse around the whole site if you
like, but there isn't much there yet and it's dog
slow.)

First, there is an article by Brady Johnson on taking
your first astrophoto (okay, maybe *that* one isn't of
much interest to all you veterans here <g>), a review
of the Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual III film scanner (by
yours truly - this is the scanner I use for my images,
just one of the perks of Centre membership <g>), a
look at the Nikon D1 digital camera (although not
really a review) and a brief article about the Supra
400 problem (inspired by the discussion about that on
APML!). The photo on the cover page should be familiar
if you looked at my previous e-mail to the list this
evening (or looked at the home page of the afore-
mentioned web site). But it's not from the same scan,
someone else image processed it, and it didn't
reproduce all that well in the pdf. My intent is to
feature an astrophoto (film or CCD) taken by a
KW-Centre member on the cover page of every issue
(hopefully, not always or even usually taken by me!).
With only four issues a year, that shouldn't be too
difficult.
(BTW, although I'm not here to toot Brady's horn
either, or to advertise for him, some of you may of
heard his name before. He makes widefield adapters
that mate camera lenses to SBIG's CFW8 filter wheel.
He may also post images in the CCD mailing list - I
wouldn't know because I don't subscribe to it.)
