AW: [APML] M81 revisited
Hi Tony,
beside the fact that this is a very beautiful image, it very interesting
that you've captured that blue blob. This blob is Holmberg 9, a faint
dwarf galaxy. If you like check out the amazing widefield image of M81
and M82 taken by the CFHT with it's new CCD array (sorry, I don't have
the URL right now).
Thanks for sharing this image.
Best regards
Andreas

So.... I happened upon 3 negatives of M81 shot with an "A" grade
C-14 on Fuji SHG 400 at f/7 from Mount Pinos back when it was a dark
place... these worked quite well and I reprocessed them and added the
image to my web site... I know it does not have the detail of a CCD, but
it has field and it also shows this faint blue blob above it that must
be some kind of companion like the Magellenic Clouds are to us... only
one real background galaxy showed up... another film vs. CCD
difference... I tried to be a bit restrained in my presentation of the
image... have a habit of going a bit too far at times...
