[APML] Photoshop for Astrophotographers

Hi

With the release of my new book, Photoshop for Astrophotographers, I have
placed some new material on my web site that may be of interest to members
of this list.

They are at: http://www.astropix.com/PFA/SAMPLE.HTM

There are six sections available, four of which contain completely new
material. Two sections, one on Focus Definitions and Formulas, and one on
Compositing with Layer Masks have been on my web site previously.

The new sections are about:

Dynamic Range: http://www.astropix.com/PFA/SAMPLE1/SAMPLE1.HTM

It discusses the different types of dynamic range found in scenes in
nature; as can be recorded by the exposure latitude of the film; as
expressed in the optical density of the film; and as found in output devices.

Histograms: http://www.astropix.com/PFA/SAMPLE3/SAMPLE3.HTM

This is an in-depth discussion of histograms, what they are, how to read
them, and how they are useful in evaluating the data in an astronomical image.

Synthetic Luminance Channels: http://www.astropix.com/PFA/SAMPLE4B/SAMPLE4B.HTM

An analysis of the usefulness (or non-usefulness as the case may be) of
synthetic luminance channels in astronomical images. Different methods of
creating synthetic luminance channels are discussed.

Resolution: PPI, LPI, DPI: http://www.astropix.com/PFA/SAMPLE5/SAMPLE5.HTM

An explanation of the differences between Pixels Per Inch (PPI), Lines Per
Inch (LPI) and Dots Per Inch (DPI), how these are completely different
things, and how they interrelate and apply to outputting an image to a
monitor, film recorder, printer, or press.

Two of these pages, Histograms and Synthetic Luminance Channels, are quite
large (700 - 800kb) because they contain a lot of information and
illustrations and images, so if you are downloading them on a slow
connection, please be patient.

< Shameless plug mode off > :-)
