Re: [APML] CCD vs. Film Truce

Rob,

Thanks for coming out with the white flag. I want to underscore what others
have already said. It takes a big man to say he's sorry and it shows you
have character. Not that I'm judging you in any way...in the short time
that I've been on this list I've seen some pretty heated discussions that
were much more off-topic than CCD vs Film<g>. In a recent off-list email I
told you how much I appreciated what you do and how you do it. This is the
"how you do it" part that I was referring to. I think you have more to
teach me than just good astro imaging techniques <g>.

I've been at this photon collecting stuff for about a year now. It's seems
I've come into the hobby and a very interesting time. Film is very much
alive and I've seen some pretty incredible work done with it. And this CCD
stuff is also quite incredible. So I've spent the last year just dabbling
in as many areas as I felt I could with the meager setup that I have. I've
tried not to be biased toward any particular style or technique. I've spent
the past couple months taking inventory and trying to decide what direction
to go specialize in. As it turns out I have pretty nasty light pollution as
well which really limits my abilities with film, but on the other hand I
don't have the funds to get the CCD camera that I really want. So I've
discovered that with my constraints and limitations I get the most enjoyment
out of imaging galaxies and doing lunar photography and that's what I've
decided to specialize in (it also explains why I haven't been very active on
this list <g>).

Why am I boring you all with this? Just to say that everyone's passions and
interests are different. That doesn't make us right or wrong, just
different. I for one appreciate our differences. Some of the greatest
astrophotographers in the world are on this list, and I for one am grateful
for the opportunity to learn from them. If it weren't for the passions that
drove these great men to achieve the results I've seen on their (and your)
sites I doubt that I would be as motivated as I am to keep on keepin on.

I'll probably keep shooting film when I can get out to the dark sites and
I'll keep lurking here and trying to contribute when I can. Let's all
follow Rob's lead and keep it real and respectful.
