Re: [APML] RE: CLA-7 and ST-7Ei

Joachim and Robert, (Stuart here, Gene posted it for me as I was travelling and
only had work e-mail available). Thanks for your replies and encouragement.

Joachim, your link to the Hutech site showed me a pretty cool alternative to the
CLA-7 that would accomodate LRGB with my camera lenses.

For $149 I can buy a CLA-7 and then I might need a 1.25" IR blocking filter
which I believe will mount inside it for $69 total $218. I could start with the
CLA-7 and see how bad the bloating of the stars comes out. Then either sell it
and go with the Hutech system or just add the IR blocking filter or just run
naked with it. I think this is what I'll do - go filterless till I see what the
stars look like.

For $550 I can buy the IDAS filter set w camera adapter and I'm done.

Or $250 for Steve Mandel's camera adapter AND $800+ for the CFW-8. The same as
$550 would buy me! Amazing! (now, I'm sure Steve's system is brilliant but until
I find myself with an ST-10XME and CFW-8 - or whatever comes next - I think I
can't afford it.) And just to be really clear, Steve replied to my queries over
the weekend and he was GREAT - I just think I need to start small and see how I
do first.

You know, this hobby is amazing. I go looking for one thing and discover
something else I'd been looking for since at least a year ago. What else did I
find that I'd been looking for? A source for drop-in filters for my 400mm
Nikkor! I've looked everywhere and just get blank stares and there it is on the
same page. I have a skylight filter in there now but was thinking about and LPS
filter and there it was. Ha!

Thanks!!!
Stuart
