I may be mistaken, but it think Jason Ware actually
posted the images, to which Andy replied (something
about a rotund woman <g>). Mind you, I don't see
Jason's original post in the list, which is strange.

Myself, I was *very* impressed with the images taken
by Johannes Schedler with a Canon D60, which Jeff Ball
mentioned here back on March 10th. Here is the link
again: http://panther-observatory.com/deepsky.htm#66

I'd be proud of getting anything approaching Johannes'

prime-focus shots with film or a CCD camera, much
less a digital SLR! (Johannes is also using some very
nice optics - the 4" f/5 TMB APO refractor seen here:
http://panther-observatory.com/tips/ITT2002/ITT7m.jpg.

So even if my techniques were perfect I wouldn't
expect results as good as his without upgrading from
my current el-cheapo set-up.)

Let's hope. I realize the price of astro-cameras
suffer from small production runs but as general-
purpose digital cameras improve, the cost of at least
some of the detectors that could be suitable for an
astro-camera should come down, which can only help.
When are we going to see a cooled, megapixel astro-
camera for $1000? <g>. This hypothetical millicent
per pixel miracle could well be CMOS based. The D60
is proof that you can get useful results from CMOS
even uncooled. And the whole D60, complicated SLR
guts and all, retails for just 1/3 of a millicent
per pixel (6.3 Mpixel sensor), so it seems to me
there is some room to play with here!
