RE: [APML] Galaxies with a telephoto lens?
I have slides of M's 81 82 51 65 66 all taken through a 250 mm telephoto
lens. Although you don't get the resolution, and you can't see spiral arms,
but you can tell that these are galaxies.
M81 and M82 are bright enough to show detail, I can see faint spiral arms in
my M81 picture. On the M51 picture you can see the Pin Wheel shape as well
as the companion NGC 5195.
If you have the right equipment then give it ago. Use an exposure of 10 or
15 minutes on ISO 400 and you should see something.
