RE: [APML] M13 - My first posted image to APML

Thanks.

Yes, it is that scope! And with the lesser of the two
AC drive/gear systems it was available with. I bought
it used many years ago to get myself back into
astronomy from a long absence (my previous scope was
a 60mm refractor!). I figured it might be usable
for prime-focus astrophotography. I was right...but
only after I modified the helical focuser and the pier
legs (simple mods, really). The mount is tolerable to
guide (~ 25" PE) and surprisingly sturdy - more than
sufficient for the light OTA, which weighs only about
11 lbs. I'll get some pics of my equipment set-up on
the site soon. It'll be like looking back in time!

I've only seen one other photo taken with an MTS-SN6.
I'm blazing new territory (with an old scope). :-)
I have several more photos taken with this set-up that
I'll eventually post, most of them "firsts" for me
like M13. The slides pretty look good by eye, so
I think they have potential. But I have to first
learn how to image-process them properly. I have
*so* much to learn.

Re your composite, maybe you should fake some
shadows from the cluster. That thing looks
bright enough to read by!

Holy cow Alan,
Are you using one of those "classic" Meade
Schmidt-newts on a fork that is pier mounted? Heck,
those MTS scopes came out in the late 80's/early 90's
as I recall. You are the first I have seen to actually
take picture through one! I thought that they were a
pretty cool looking scope, but never picked one up.

Nice job on M13 - manually guided too! You could
probably double your exposure time without too much
trouble. You can't have too many stars on a globular.
Or too many trees - check out

something completely different.....

Don Spencer's post of his M13 shot, an action he
said was inspired by all the great images appearing
here, inspired me in turn to finally put one of
my shots on a web page. It is also of M13, which
seemed easier for a neophyte like myself to process
than other images I have taken (and which still
await processing). This is my first ever shot of M13,
taken last August. The exposure was only 15 minutes,
on Elite Chrome 200, and I didn't spend much time
processing it - just contrast stretching and some
sharpening. There is probably much more I could do
to improve it, but I haven't learned how yet! There
are actually two images here, one a closeup:

Chris, if the formatting of the page looks familiar
it's because I "borrowed" one of your pages and edited
it. I know next to nothing about HTML and your pages
looked both elegant and simple. I did change the
fonts, background color, etc. Can we call this an
homage? It's just to get me started - I'll change it
further as I learn more.
