Re: [APML] M51 LRGB

That is one hell of a shot Tony.  One question, what is that blue streak on 5195?  I've never noticed it before in shots of M51.  I can see a slight hint of something there on you Luminance shot but I'm not sure.

    After spending too much time on this and getting significant others about to pack up and leave... I have come to a conclusion about LRGB... less is more. After trying every conceivable technique, the one that worked the best for me was as follows:
 
    Make layers of both components, drag the L on top of the RGB.
 
    Start out with the L at 50%... turn the layer on and off and see what effect the L is having on the image.
 
    Change the % until you get just the right balance.
 
    Here's the obvious part... since your image now has been split into two components, the B&W information and the color, either one can be adjusted and futzed with until everything is "just so"... you don't need anything else. Once I grasped this simple fact, everything fell into place.
 
     If you're not totally sick of M51 by now, here's the result:
 
 
     Now I need to get some real work done...
