Re: [APML] 10x20 minutes of the Rosette Nebula from apartment balcony.
Thanks, Joe!
Actually I didn't look through the camera in order to check the framing. I just
depended on the GOTO of my scope to be accurate enough! My mistake was to use
the coordinates for NGC2244 as target, instead of slightly to the west of
NGC2244 and to orient the camera in portrait mode. The latter was a result of
being lazy. I didn't plan to shoot the Rosette that night. My plan was to start
the evening shooting C/2002 C1 Ikeya-Zhang before it went behind my neighbours
apartment and then move on to M42-43 or the Horsehead. After shooting the comet
I realized that there was a bit of haze towards the horizon and that the
conditions weren't good enough for the objects I had planned to shoot. Keep in
mind that these objects are quite low in the sky from my high latitude, and they
had crossed the meridian already and was getting lower and lower. I therefore
decided I was better off shooting the Rosette. Unfortunately I was to lazy to
change the orientation of my camera because that would have required me to
refocus. As you can imagine, I won't make that mistake again!! <VBG>
Regards,
Arne
