I also use long SNAP TIES, available at hardware stores like Wally world, depot etc, in the electrical depts. They are the nylon straps approx. 1/2" wide. You can buy these up to 3' long and Daisy chain them if you need to, or cut them to the desired length. I carry a package of assorted lengths for emergencies. I use one to strap my Telrad to my Orion80mm.

Hi Lydia,

I do this all the time with my Telrad.  I use velcro straps that are long enough to go all the way around my OTA, and thread them through the open base of the Telrad unit.  This way I can leave the covering on the double stick tape that's on the bottom of the Telrad base, and not get any glue on my OTA - I can also remove the Telrad and use it on other OTAs this way without having to buy extra bases.  In my case, no velcro is actually attached to the Telrad or the OTA.

A photo showing this setup can be seen here: http://home.datawest.net/jkolb/epsilon.htm

This is slightly off topic. I have seen a picture of a telescope with velcro straps on it for attaching a Telrad. Does anyone know exactly how the Telrad is attached to these? Is the opposite velcro attached to the base or the actual Telrad unit?

Thanks,
Lydia
