Oops,
I also forgot to mention that at 2X2
or especially 3X3 "binning" of the pixels, to increase the sensitivity of the
CCD to be able to record the color data more efficiently, you loose
resolution... exactly like using a more coarse, faster film instead of pokey TP
or something like it. So the film version of this would be to shoot TP for the
"L" and something like Tmax 3200 for the color RGB component. The major
difference between the CCD and the film would be the ability of the CCD to
record 16bit linear data right out of the sky... you should never see a
burned up nucleus in a CCD shot. With TP, there's almost no choice. This is
perhaps the single most important feature that I have discovered about CCD's vs.
film. Anyway, my "pure" RGB shot doesn't go very deep and isn't very sharp for
all of the above, and that is why sneaking an "L" in there somehow might be a
good thing if we can keep the color.
