I think the subtle aspects of image processing (just the right amount
of curves, sharpening, color, etc.) is something you can't spell out for
people. Its what makes a good image even better. This is where experience
comes in and cannot really be taught. It comes from processing (and looking
at) thousands of images. Developing an "eye" for what makes astronomical
images exciting to look at comes with experimentation, trial and error, and
being a student of astrophotography.
