OK Steve,
I've stayed out of this because I have no experience guiding with out of
focus stars.
My guess would be that the centroid must spread out giving the ST-V multiple
hot spots. Sort of like the ST-4 when it had two similar stars on the chip.
My advice is simple. We get too little time out under the stars, use the
best equipment you can afford, particularly when it effects guiding and in
turn the success of the shot. If you want to guide with a camera lens use a
good one, seagull or out of focus stars just won't do. (G)
I've been using the eFinder very successfully and I plan on trying an
Olympus 135mm f2.8 lens in the future.
