Re: [APML] What direction now? (was NGC 3628)

Hi all,

First of all I want to say that I have no problem at
all with overall general content of this list. I think
Gene has done an excellent job of not being heavy
handed one way or the other. This is a film list.
OTOH, I've been a member of SBIG's list for about a
year, and know that there are a number of CCD issues
and techniques that can be valuable here. I have
learned so much from so many of you that I really
would have no idea how to express my appreciation and
thanks. Somehow though, a line needs to be drawn at
the point where CCD images are posted here for no
other reason than to say "here's my new picture".

If Tony, (sorry Tony, just an example) posts an M51
CCD image for the purpose of explaining HOW he managed
to get so much information out of it, then I feel that
we all gain from that in some way, shape or form. I
would also hope that he, and others, would not feel
uncomfortable doing that on APML.

I know this is a touchy subject. I think this subject
will re-surface often in the future. I also think
there will be some nasty exchanges in the future over
how far new technology should encroach here, so far
it's been handled well. I really hope that moderation
will prevail.

Alan
