While I don't use registar (I use MaximDL), the process is similar. It is 
important to process everything at 16 bits. Photoshop is used at the very end 
for the Layers  and a bit of unsharp masking.

Here are my recent images of M51. The color image is 50% of the original 
size, the B&W is at 100%. These are 3x20 minute exposures taken with my 
experimental telecompressor at F11 with the 10" Mak. judging by your results, 
my color is perhaps a bit too green. My main impediment is the severe light 
pollution here at my site. I will be adding to these images whenever I get 
some more clear weather. The resolution is not yet at the level that I can 
achieve with the Mak. My goal is to really resolve the knots in that core and 
its star-like nucleus.
