Actually Jay, you comment made it on list. :) However it is a
good one, and to bring it back on topic to this list, to protect your
images & scans, does not every one here use two hard drives?
You see, I have two hard drives, that is, physically seperate
hard drives on my system. Each hard drive may be sub divided into two or
three "drives" in Windows. So drive 1 is "C", "D" and "E" for example,
while drive 2 is "F", "G" and "H". My experience then is to have your O/S
and your main program files on the first physical drive, and then all my
"working files", that is, word processor documents, web page documents,
Tiffs, Jpegs, raw scans, etc, etc, on the second physical drive.
I find that when and if a hard drive ever corrupts, gets nailed by
a virus, or physcially breaks down, 99% of the time it is the drive with
your operating system on it. So if your first hard drives fails, all your
essentail data is safe on the second physical drive. It is very easy to
re-install new programs, but recovering all your documents & images from
backups, even from CDs, can be a pain in the butt. Especailly if you are
not religious in your backup proceedures. Hard drives are low enough in
price anymore it is well worth the investment for protection of data, IMO.
