Re: [APML] Off topic request for opinion
Robert;
A couple years ago I ran into a problem where Norton 2000 or 2001 told me I
was current although I had not updated in a month. Your problem of not being
able to "connect" to Norton is not what I experienced but I'll continue my
story, maybe you can use the info.
I found is in C:\Program Files\CommonFiles\Symatec Shared\Virus Defs I had
several (6-8) levels of definitions. Symatec's Knowledge Base told me to
remove the old defs and do another LiveUpdate. This solved my problem. The
only problem, I'm now running Norton 2002 and when I went to get the 'exact'
path above I found I've got another 11 Definitions files of 5+Mb ea. Each of
the files increase in size from 5.19Mb to 6.58Mb for the most recent. I
installed Norton 2002 in 11-01 and the oldest def file is dated 20010705.def,
the current def is 20020403.def. Looks like I need to clean house again. I'm
crossing my fingers I don't screw things up. There seems to be something else
hidden which keeps the old Def files from being deleted...joe :)
PS: Another thought, are you still subscribed for Virus Defs? Each release
comes with 1yrs free updates, to extend the updates without getting a new Norton
Rel. will cost you, if I remember correctly, $3 p/yr.
