Hi Jerry,
I'm not sure you even need to
copy the L to the clipboard...after making the L active I just open the
layers palette, double click on the L background icon to make it into a layer,
then drag the icon onto the RGB.
Another feature no-one has
mentioned about this method that really opens up all kinds of cans of fun is to
make duplicate layers of either the L or RGB and add them in with various
blending modes and see what happens.
