John , yes if you remove the top plastic the springs underneth will push the
beate up and you will not be in sync with the film plane ,thats what the
instruction that come with the beattie say (just reread them to make sure I
was saying it right)  After I instaled mine I took some close up daylight
photos to make sure my focus wasent off   , I  was amazed I did it right
haha  and real happy the closest camera repair people are about a gazillion
miles from me
