Phil , I`t not that hard ,  you come in from the top . there are 1/2 dozen
or so screws that hold the metal ferainer down . the origonal screen is
sandwiched between 2 clear plastic protective screens  . when you instal the
beatie you eliminate the bottom one , but still use the top one . it has to
do with springs under the sides of the beatie and it maintains the focus
distance (I hope I`m explaining this right , I understand what I`m saying
I`m more of a show you than tell you kind of guy) to the bottom of the
screen . thats why I thought if you cut out the center of the plastic
protective screen, leaving the edges for the spacing  . that would let more
light through to your eye
