Yes Ann, the adapter would have to be home made but they are not
at all difficult to make. All you need is two brass thumb tacks and a short
piece of 7/16" dowell rod. I bought the dowell at Lowe's but
any home improvement store should have it. I soldered a wire to each thumb
tack and pushed them into the end of the dowell cut to the
same length as the battery and viola you're in business. Leave the
battery door open and bring the wires out to your source of 6v DC.
The $200 for ther AE-1 with lens sounds kinda high. You didn't say
which 50 mm lens but I'm assuming it is the f/1.8. You should be able to get
the AE-1P with f/1.4 lens for that amount though. The AE-1P
is slightly better than the straight AE-1 because it has an owner
repleacable viewing screen and the motor winder for it permits
remote electric release if you don't want to fool with a locking
cable release. If you plan to use it also for other photographic
projects the Program exposure is sometimes helpful.
