Re: [APML] G11 Maintenance
Hi Dave:
No, it's rather easy. Just unscrew the clutch knobs and remove the washers
and note the order in which they come off. Be sure to hold the head assembly
or the weight of the head will allow it to swing over and hit your clock
drive motor (I had to repair mine). Pull out the entire shaft and you will
be able to then get access to the bearings. Use WD40 to loosen the bearings
if frozen. They should be loose and rotate ealsily with your fingers. Clean
with alcohol. Remove the worm gear drive cover and you will see how to
continue the disassembly. You will have to loosen the worm gear in order to
remove and reassemble the main drive gear. There is another bearing that is
underneath the main drive gear. It has a couple of stanless steel washers
that make up the bearing. Note the order. The disassembly/assembly is
basically the same for RA and DEC. Clean all surfaces with alcohol. Grease
and reassemble. Be sure to keep lube/grease off of the nylon clutch plate.
Don't use too much grease as a small amount goes a long way.
Good luck,
Bob
