Re: [APML] Auroral activity over New Mexico

Hello all,

There was quite a disturbance actually. A quote from a forcast...

" ** Potential category G3 Geomagnetic Storm **

One of the most vigorous interplanetary disturbances to impact the Earth
so far this solar cycle collided with the Earth's magnetosphere near 16:40
UTC on 06 April. The disturbance was preceded by one of the strongest shock
fronts yet observed this solar cycle. Solar wind velocities almost
instantaneously increased by almost 200 kilometers per second within a minute
or two from a background quiet-time value of 380 km/sec to a value exceeding
570 km/sec. The strength of the magnetic fields in space (which originate
from the Sun and are dragged outward by the solar wind) also increased
dramatically in magnitude by a factor of almost 4 times the normal quiet-time
background value. "

Wouldn't you know it, it has been cloudy in Northern Ontario for days, typical
spring time weather. Oh well, I am glad that others further south are getting
a chance to view this phenonemon. There was another display visible hear
about
a week ago, not so bright but covered half the sky. Hopefully things will
have
us looking up for these displays as the weather clears and the warmer
temperatures
return.

Incidentally, if you would like to receive forcasts like the one I quoted
from above,
there is a link on the Sky and Telescope web site that will point you in
right direction.

cheers, Graham

Are the shadows there for me to find, or placed there by my searching mind.
When I reach and find them gone, was I right or was I wrong?
