The Dumbell Nebula is a small object! It's saving grace is that it is bright enough to be captured in short exposures. I've viewed this object with a number of different telescopes... including a 36" Obsession Reflector (a near religeous experience!)

This photo was taken through a Meade 10" f/10 SCT, but was shot at f/5.5 using the Lumicon Giant Easy Guider as the focal reducer. This is a manually-guided 30 minute exposure on un-hypered Fuji HR-1600.

This image is also available in a high-res version (1024x715x24bit JPG 151k).

I have produced a starchart (1024x768x16color 33K GIF) of this area, showing the photograph's frame. This chart was produced with the exceptional program MegaStar and shows stars down to 14th magnitude.
