The sky around Deneb (Alpha Cygnus) is full of bright nebula (including the North American Nebula), dark nebula, and star clouds. This is an unguided 30-minute exposure at f/2.8 on hypered Fuji SHG-400 through a 50mm f/2 Nikkor camera lens sporting a 48mm Lumicon DeepSky filter. My Nikon FT2 was piggybacked on a Meade 10" SCT (Premiere 2120/50SDH) using the Losmandy Secondary Mounting System. The photo was taken during the Summer of 1994 from my primary photo spot 20 miles to the west of Columbia, Missouri.

This photo simply would not have been possible without the use of the Lumicon DeepSky filter. Even at the darkest sites I have access to (mag 7 or better naked-eye on good nights), I can't go more than 15 minutes without reaching the skyfog-limit. The DeepSky filter cuts right through it and I have no problem going 30 minutes or more at f/2.8 before fogging. Even though it shifts the color on the outside edge and vignettes with lenses less than 85mm focal-length... it's more than worth it!

If you have the hardware to handle it, here is a high-res version (1024x692x24bit JPG 185k).
